The North Carolina Alliance for Healthy Communities 6th Annual Conference was a huge success. Our focus this year was Promoting Excellence in Healthcare and the conference hi-lighted best practices. We reviewed current healthcare data at the national and state level. Several employer's presented examples of their best practice and we received an Immunization update with focus on Epidemiology and Occupational Health. Strategies were identified that promote consultation and support to primary care physicians treating patients with behavioral illness.
Today's healthcare environment relies heavily on technology to improve healthcare performance; we discovered some of the most up-to-date electronic systems available and how to integrate technology within physician/hospital environments. Consumer driven healthcare does work and several employers gave examples of exactly how. We concluded the conference with an outstanding executive panel, which discussed such issues as Transparency in Healthcare, the Re-engineering of the State Health Plan and Physician Incentives that improve efficiency and quality.
