John Miall is currently the President of Miall Consulting and is the Co-founder of The Asheville Project. He is a highly sought consultant and speaker on health care and disease management particularly in the fields of Risk Management, Health Benefits, Disease Management and innovations in care plans. He serves as a consultant to the American Pharmacist's Association (APhA) Foundation for Patient Self Management and City's Challenge Programs. Mr. Miall was previously the Director of Risk Management with the City of Asheville, N.C. This highly responsible position included major operational and budget responsibilities for city-wide self-funded liability programs. His department was a major source of contact for public complaints relating to services. John also worked closely with other city departments, the City Manager, in both an advisory and operational capacity to assess the City's exposure to liability, as well as loss prevention, and loss control. This position also worked closely on a daily basis with citizens, physicians, medical facilities, attorneys, and community groups to minimize exposure of City assets to accidental loss.
Mr. Miall has many notable accomplishments including President of Asheville Claims Corporation; City Manager's appointee/designee to the Police and Firefighters Local Supplemental Pension Review Board; negotiated and secured the first direct contracts for discount pricing with local hospitals in community history; negotiated first PPO agreement with area physicians; created first managed care system for mental health benefits in 1996, resulting in savings of over $90,000 during first year; management of Employee Benefit Trust has resulted in current balance of 3.1MM, allowing the City to keep group health rates stable for five years, representing lowest cost among municipalities in N.C.; cut actual expenses for City's property / casualty insurance premiums by a cumulative total of $8.2MM since 1990, while increasing protective limits fifteen fold; actively involved in Quality Management; having completed MQI and Process Management Training; Sponsor of the City's first Cross-Functional Team; partner in the Asheville Project, an innovative disease management initiative involving pharmacists in preventive patient care; President, Asheville Claims Corporation and President, Western Carolina Well Care, Inc.
Mr. Miall's academic credentials include a BA in Political Science (pre-law curriculum), from UNC-A and an AS from Montreat-Anderson College among many other educational accomplishments.
Holt Anderson is Executive Director of the North Carolina Healthcare Information &Communications Alliance, Inc. (NCHICA), a private, nonprofit consortium of healthcare providers, payers, corporate partners, professional associations and government agencies formed in 1994 with the mission of improving health and care in NC by accelerating the adoption of information technology and related policies. Holt has served or is serving on the Steering Committee or Advisory Council for the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) Phase 1 Architecture Prototype and Phase 2 Trial Implementations for the contracts with the HHS Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC); RTI International Privacy and Security Solutions for Interoperable Health Information Exchange Technical Advisory Panel for the contract with AHRQ and ONC. Holt is a consultant to the Quality of Care and Performance Improvement Committee of the North Carolina Medical Society. Holt served on the Expert Resource Panel for an Information and Assistance Study for the US Administration on Aging (AoA). He previously has served on the Steering Committee for the NC Immunization Registry and was a Governor's appointee to the Southern Technology Council and the Southern Governors' Association Task Force on Medical Technology. He served on the Social &Ethical Issues Task Force for North Carolina Vision 2030 and a North Carolina General Assembly Legislative Study Commission for Digitization of the State Archives.
Holt is a graduate of Duke University.
Dr. Grace Terrell is a practicing general internist and the president of Cornerstone Health Care, P.A., a multi- specialty medical group in the Piedmont Triad region of North Carolina with more than 225 providers and greater than 1000 employees who practice at five separate hospitals. Dr. Terrell also serves on the Piedmont Triad Partnership Health Care Round Table, chairing its information technology subcommittee. She serves on the Board of Directors of High Point Regional Health System, on its executive committee, finance committee, and chairs the quality committee. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American College of Physician Executives, the Board of the Guilford County Economic Workforce Development Committee, the Board of CHC Realty, Inc., and the Board of the Cornerstone Foundation. Dr. Terrell's education background includes University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Bachelor of Arts in English and religion, with honors, and was a Morehead Scholar; Duke University School of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine; and the John Q. Heinz School of Public Policy and Management at Carnegie Mellon University, earning a Master of Medical Management.
Gretchen Jenkins a clinical pharmacist specializing in the provision of medication therapy management to patients in the community setting. She holds the position of Clinical Coordinator with KDI Health Solutions. She provides diabetes self-management education through Kerr Drug's American Diabetes Association nationally recognized community program. Ms. Jenkins is actively involved in the planning and implementation of Immunization services in the community setting. She is a preceptor for students on advanced community pharmacy rotations from UNC and Campbell. She is also involved in a variety of initiatives to improve medication adherence. Ms. Jenkins received her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, School of Pharmacy and her residency was with the Campbell University School of Pharmacy and Central Pharmacy.
Dr. Smith is currently in his second stint at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC). He began his healthcare industry career at the company, where he was originally responsible for managing pharmacy programs and initiatives. After leaving BCBSNC, Ron joined Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation where he served in several capacities including Medical Affairs and Corporate Account Management. After his tenure at Novartis, Smith gained experience in assisting health plans and employer clients in management of prescription drug benefits with Medco Health. Ron currently holds the position of Vice President of Employer Health & Corporate Pharmacy at BCBSNC where he oversees efforts to engage employers and customers to deliver comprehensive, data-driven solutions to impact member health and affordability.
During Smith's time at BCBSNC, the company has received national attention for its efforts to promote consumer wellness and affordability including efforts to increase immunization rates for the flu, improve adherence to prescribed medications, and increased use of generic medications that have saved members millions of dollars in out-of-pocket drug costs.
Dr. Smith is actively involved in many professional and civic organizations and affiliations and has served as a guest lecturer and advisor at both Campbell University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Business Administration, a Master of Business Administration and a Doctor of Pharmacy degree. After completion of his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Campbell University's School of Pharmacy, Smith completed a post-doctoral fellowship in managed care administration at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
Bryan Bray is a partner, Chief Operating Officer and Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner (CPP) for Medication Management, LLC and Vice President of Clinical Services for Piedmont Pharmaceutical Care Network, LLC. In addition to management of clinical services and overseeing day to day operations, Dr. Bray provides direct patient care in several physician offices as well as clinical services for several home healthcare agencies and self-insured employers in North Carolina. He is also a preceptor for an Ambulatory Care Clerkship for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy.
Prior to founding Medication Management and Piedmont Pharmaceutical Care Network, LLC, Dr. Bray was a Lead Consultant with PharMerica in Greensboro, NC. Over the 15 years of service with PharMerica, Dr. Bray managed the consulting services for 3000 beds as well as directly provided consulting services to residents in skilled nursing facilities.
Dr. Bray's efforts in developing and promoting clinical pharmacy services earned him the recognition from the North Carolina Association of Pharmacists as Innovative Practitioner of the Year in 2001 and the Don Blanton Award in 2004 for the greatest contribution to the practice of pharmacy in North Carolina. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy and a doctor of pharmacy degree for the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Andy developed the strategy behind FPL's move from health promotion to a fully integrated health management approach with its successful launch of the FPL-WELL program. As part of this company paradigm shift, he opened employee exercise facilities nationwide, three on-site medical centers and expanded health promotion and employee benefits to include: disease management, complex case management and launched an e-health platform. In addition Andy manages the EAP program, and has managed the company prescription drug program, all of which are part of an integrated health management strategy. He served as co-lead in 2003 -2006 on FPL's health care quality team, a corporate initiative to moderate health care costs. Andy has been successful in integrating health management with benefits plan design. Andy is now part of the newly formed Total Rewards Department within Human Resources at FPL GROUP.
Prior to his 16 year tenure at FPL, Andy served as Vice President of Health Care Services at Doctor's Hospital Coral Gables, Florida, Director of Health Management at United Technologies/Pratt Whitney and Director Health Promotion at Gulf & Western Corporation and Manager of Wellness at Mobil Corporation
Andy has served as an Adjunct Professor in the department of Exercise Science at Florida Atlantic University. Andy is a founding board member of the National Business Group on Health's Institute on the cost and health effects of Obesity. Andy is considered a national subject matter expert in the area of health management and is published in numerous health journals, has been interview by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and CFO magazine. Andy has appeared on ABC World News. He holds both a master's in business administration degree and a master's in education/exercise physiology; his Bachelor of Science degree is in education from Cortland State.
